I’m Going Indie!

Forest TrailWell, hybrid anyway 🙂

Early this year, I decided that I wanted to venture out into the ever-changing waters of self-publishing. The news about my publisher has only put wind in my sails. I want the experience of steering my own course on a project. …Okay, I think I’m done with the sailing metaphor.

I love writing stories. I also love making books. I started printing out my stories and gluing the pages together into makeshift covers, complete with my art on them, back in High School. Maybe earlier. I want to be part of every stage of the process of creating a book. Self-publishing is a great opportunity to do so.

My first project will be small. It’s an F/F superhero short story that I dearly love and want to see in the world. Since it’s a smaller project, it’s not as daunting as a full length novel—but rest assured, that is coming. In fact, this summer I plan to answer the call of many readers with (drumroll please) a full length, serious, scifi romance! I’m so excited about that project. Look for more about that here in the coming months!

Am I walking away from traditional publishing though? No way. I love the back-and-forth with editors, the surprise joy of a gorgeous cover suddenly appearing in my inbox. I had an amazing experience with Samhain, and I haven’t given up on finding that with another publisher (or several). In the end, I’ll be a hybrid author. I have to tell you, though, I’m super excited about exploring the Indie experience 🙂

2016 is shaping up a bit different than expected. Resident Alien is still coming out on April 26. There’s even hope that Lingering Touch will come out later this year. I’d love to see that book in the world in its current form. The cover is so beautiful. The superhero short story should be out by the end of March, and I’m hoping for the full length scifi romance to be out by the end of June.

It’s an exciting stage of my writing path. Thanks for coming along with me!
