Fictional Friends

One of the reasons I write is that I love books. I have loved them for as long as I can remember. The characters in my favorite books have kept me company when I was lonely and been with me through both good times and bad. In short, they were friends.

This feeling of connection is even stronger with the characters I write, especially with the Summer Park Psychics series. I don’t know why this surprises me. When I set out to write the series, I specifically focused on making my characters feel like living, breathing people. It’s been wonderful to hear how many readers picked up on this, feeling depth in all the characters and connecting with them as well.

I track the  birthdays of most of the characters in the Summer Park Psychics in my planner, and let myself imagine what they’re doing as time passes. Every time I check in with them, it feels like stopping by a friend’s house. There’s so much love there.

I’m not sure when I’ll head back to Summer Park in my writing, but I do have some imaginary news from the little peeks into their lives I’ve managed. I don’t know if these count as spoilers, since you probably have guessed that the couples in my books actually wind up together by the end. They are romances, after all 🙂 Anyway, here you go!

Rachel and Garrett have had a son named Hiram. He was born on April 7, 2016, and is keeping them busy! I already have an idea of what kind of person Hiram will grow up to be, and am looking forward to writing his story <3 I’m also looking forward to telling the story of his nanny, who gets into trouble because of… Wait, that would be a spoiler 😉

Today is Garrett’s birthday—the big 4-0. That’s what prompted this post. Happy birthday, Garrett!

During the celebration, Elsa and Dante will announce that Elsa is pregnant 😀 They’re right at the end of their third trimester, which is often when people decide to share that special news. Elsa is nervous as heck about it, but Dante is being amazing. And Winston, of course, is over the moon. He’s going to DOTE on Alexis when she’s born (Dante has become a huge Castle fan, along with reading tons of steampunk).

Those are the major developments that I can share so far. I will return to Summer Park. There are so many stories yet to be told.

What stories and characters are keeping you company lately?

  1. […] Garrett and Rachel are my favorite couple in the Summer Park universe (so far 😉 ). There’s something about Garrett especially that I just can’t resist. He’s a hunky doctor with a heart of gold. He cares so much for everyone, especially Rachel. It’s been wonderful watching them finally have a chance to be together (I have mentioned that I’m a little weird about tracking this universe). […]
