2,000 Words

I’m 2,000 words away from typing “The End” on the sixth Department of Homeworld Security novella! I’m pretty sure that’s going to happen today. There are several reasons this is very special.

For one, this is the last Department of Homeworld Security novella that I have on my writing schedule. That doesn’t mean it’s the last one I plan to write! Have no worries there. But I plan to write them…without planning to write them 😉

As I need breaks from writing my longer works, I’ll revisit this world. I’m sure it won’t be too long, especially since I already have the eighth and ninth novella concepts developed 🙂 And you have a bunch of awesomeness to look forward to in the meantime!

The fifth novella, Entry Visa, is coming out next Tuesday. That’s only a week away! And the sixth novella will be out in August. The seventh has been written since last year and just needs to be polished up before it comes out in September!

And that brings us to the second reason finishing this work is so special. Back in March (I think?), I said I was going to try to release a Department of Homeworld Security novella every month for six months in a row. At the time, it seemed absolutely doable. I had just received the rights back for the first three novellas in the series, and I was already sitting on one that was finished. That gave me a three month lead time, and I write super-fast.

Then May happened. May was…something else, I tell ya. I released something every week in May. That was kind of crazy. But I had just decided that I was Indie publishing The Summer Park Psychics, and I wanted them back in the world ASAP (which is a good thing, because they’ve really been gaining a following <3 ).

Even with that, I was able to get the new stories done and out there on time. Plus, I’m releasing a seventh in September, just to celebrate this awesome accomplishment! As Sorca would say, “Victory!”

I love how Tied up in Customs turned out, and even more where it takes the story. The series arc for these three titles is just awesome. And I have to say, I think that the sixth novella is my new favorite. I can’t wait to share it with you! But I will…until August.

Writing these so close together helped me remember what the series is about. Short, sexy, scifi. That’s it. That’s what I need to focus on. I have other series for deep world-building and intricate plots. These novellas are light, cotton-candy reads. Pure escapist fun. I think you’ll find that they deliver 🙂

Thanks for reading!
