The first book I had traditionally published finally has the cover it deserves! Wandering Soul absolutely changed the trajectory of my life.
I still remember when I got “the call.” It was actually an email, and I was sitting in front of the TV with my almost-toddler on my lap watching Sesame Street. My husband was next to me, and I was taking a moment to check my email. I saw that Samhain Publishing had accepted Wandering Soul, but needed about a year to publish it due to their schedule. They asked if that would be a problem. It was absolutely fine with me!
I started crying so hard, I couldn’t speak. I was afraid I would freak out my baby, so I handed my husband my phone to read the message that had set me off, and laughed and gently lifted my daughter up-up-up in the air to reassure her while I worked on getting out the words to express my joy. She was giggling so hard when I finally told her and hugged her close. I don’t know how well she understood, but she’s always been precocious, so who knows?
That was many years and many more books ago, but this story has always remained so dear to me. It’s a long, slow-burn romance about a writer who can project her soul back in time using works of art and who uses her ability to make her writing more real. While traveling, she comes across the man who inspired the legends of the Phantom of the Opera and falls in love with him. She realizes that his life will be cut tragically short—unless she brings him to her time, which will definitely reveal her secret powers to him and possibly others.
Samhain Publishing shuttered a few years after this, beginning my journey into Indie publishing. I struggled with trying to create my own covers for years, but have finally reached the point in my writing where I can hire a professional, and WOW what a difference it’s made for this series (yes, there are more cover reveals coming up in the next couple of months).
I hope you’ll take a moment to have a closer look at the book that started it all and its amazing new cover!
