Blood Moon Goals 2019

The full moon in October is sometimes called the Blood Moon. I think about names that various cultures have given to the full moons each month to try to connect with the people who have walked this world before me and imagine what they were thinking when they came up with each name.

After the harvest, I imagine the focus turned toward putting food away to last through the Winter and Spring while waiting for the first crops of the next year. They didn’t just have to feed humans, though, but livestock as well.

I’ve read that around this time of year, farmers would cull the herd, reducing the number of animals they had to feed through the Winter—hence, the Blood Moon. With that in mind, my focus during the Blood Moon is on sacrifice—giving things up that don’t serve me or that are eating up energy that should be spent elsewhere.

I have a lot of hobbies. Quite possibly too many hobbies. They pull my attention in different directions and have gone from filling my life with activity to almost bogging me down. There are so many projects I want to do. If I try to do them all, I’m not going to complete anything.

In the next two weeks, I’m going to really think about what I want to keep in my life, and what I can gently release. I don’t have to actually remove anything this month (I’m saving that for next month), but will be using this month’s lunar energy to do some soul-searching and decide where I want to spend my time, energy, and space.

Is there anything that you’d like to let go of during this lunar cycle? Share it in the comments so we can cheer each other on!
