Happy Autumn Equinox!
It’s the first day of my favorite season, Fall! The nights will start getting longer, the days hopefully will be cooler, and the leaves will soon begin revealing their true vibrant shades (do you remember those science lessons about the green color of chlorophyll masking a tree’s true colors? 💖🍁).
Today, we get to enjoy a day of perfect balance, though. The night and the day are exactly the same length.
I always try to do something special on the solstices and equinoxes, just to remind myself that we’re all on a beautiful ball of water-covered rock hurtling through an endless void dotted with burning orbs of fiery gases. It keeps me grounded 😊
For this year’s Autumn Equinox, my family opened up all the windows and visualized sweeping out all the stale energy from the doors. We also had to respectfully request that the orb weaver who’s spun a beautiful web pretty much over the entire back door relocate.
After that, we lit some incense and smudged every room in the house, watching the smoke tendrils and really occupying our space energetically. Most of the time, we just exist in our space. Doing little actions like this while putting mental energy into it is a great way to connect with our environment on a deeper level.
To finish up acknowledging the change of the seasons, we had a special treat of carrot cake and cider and talked about what we’d like to do this Fall to make it really special. I can’t think of a better way to usher in the season.
How about you? Do you have any special rituals or traditions surrounding this season? I’d love to hear about them.
